OVERVIEW & IMPACT

The Privacy and Compliance department oversees all privacy and compliance functions for Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., Samsung’s North American headquarters for its Device Solutions division.  This includes, among other things, SSI’s internal data privacy policies and infrastructure; product development advice and counseling; customer privacy policies; export control compliance; employee hiring, training and compensation compliance; IP / trade secret policy and procedure compliance; and other related compliance issues.  This is a new department within the SSI legal department that works closely with Samsung’s global compliance team and local stakeholders to create a cross-functional privacy and compliance framework for Samsung’s Device Solutions operations and offerings in North America.

The Senior Compliance & Privacy Manager supports the Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. Senior Compliance and Privacy Officer through preparation, review, and implementation of compliance and privacy policies, training materials, third-party contracts, and notices.  Works with local and international business partners at varying leadership levels to support privacy risk, compliance and legal matters in relation to North America, as well as corporate matters. Seeks ways to improve processes and help the department function more efficiently and effectively. Manages privacy incident, privacy impact assessment, review and response by privacy group and coordinates responses to applicable data subject requests. The position is based in San Jose, California and will be reporting to the Senior Compliance and Privacy Officer, who is also located in San Jose. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Work hand in hand with key stakeholders in the development and maintenance of processes and procedures to maintain compliance with Samsung policies and guidelines, as well as applicable privacy and data protection laws, regulations and guidelines.
• Provide privacy-related guidance and support for the business and corporate functions for inquiries, incidents, and privacy risk/impact assessments, including Data Protection Impact Assessments.
• Design and conduct audits, analyze results, draft and deliver reports on audit results, provide recommendations for process and policy improvements
• Document the personal data processing activities conducted by the businesses and staff functions and participate in new product, initiative or function due diligence risk management processes to ensure they address data protection and privacy issues
• Develop and administer any regional or country-level privacy policies and standards, in coordination with the Samsung Global Data Privacy Office; facilitate the continuous improvement of policies and standard operating procedures for the protection and security of personal information.
• Assist with the vendor privacy and security risk management process, including conducting and reviewing vendor due diligence, supporting in the contracting process and assisting and monitoring the vendor’s ongoing compliance with the business owners.
• Coordinate with compliance organizations in the parent corporation.
• Support fellow members of the Legal Department on global legal/privacy projects.
