OVERVIEW & IMPACT

This position, based in San Jose, CA, USA, will play a critical role in leading Samsung Foundry’s expansion into the performance segment, which includes CPU, GPU, AI, FPGA, networking chips, and custom silicon primarily for the enterprise and data center. The role will have responsibility for setting the overall strategy for the segment as well as defining the overall platform road-map including process technology, package, IP, services, and eco-system required to win at the targeted customers.

This job will focus on US based customers, primarily data centers, OEMs, fabless, and fab-lite customers employing a variety of business models including everything in between CoT (wafer purchases), and design services engagements.

The successful candidate is expected to have solid understanding of foundry business and an even better understanding of the data center (enterprise & hyperscale).  Deep knowledge of system architecture trends, and strong relationships with key architects, and engineers on the customer’s silicon teams is critical to success.  Additionally the candidate should possess strong interpersonal, and both verbal and written communication skills and be experienced driving new initiatives across complex organizations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Market landscape– Size and segment the overall market opportunity by customer, node, application, and purchasing timing/behavior.
• Customer targeting & long-term revenue planning – Define which customers/applications/products Samsung Foundry should be targeting to meet corporate goals.  Forecast long-term capacity and revenue.
• Road-map definition – closely collaborate with your colleagues in technical marketing in the US to define the specific process technology, IP (hard and soft), and advanced packaging (2.5D, 3D, embedded passives, etc.) technologies required to win the target customers/applications/products.
• Drive execution across the organization – convince stakeholders in engineering, marketing, strategy departments in Korea to accept and execute on your road-maps, and build capacity to match your long term growth forecasts.  This includes establishing deep informal relationships across the organization as well as representing the segment in formal strategy reviews with top executives across the company.
• Lead promotions of Samsung Foundry performance solutions to target customers
• Be the evangelist for Samsung Foundry’s performance platform in the industry– speaking at conferences, partner events, and Samsung sponsored events.

REQUIRED SKILLS (Education Certificates, Licenses, Travel)

• Minimum 10 years of semiconductor industry experience, with direct exposure to semiconductor foundry, design services, ASIC and EDA or IP business.
• Expert knowledge of trends in computer architectures, especially those in hyperscale data centers.
• Expert knowledge of trends in heterogeneous integration at the package level.
• Experience in defining chip architectures is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of the trade-offs between different complex IPs, and packages for meeting performance, price, and schedule objectives.
• Basic understanding of semiconductor process technology.
• Strong program management and detailed oriented.
• Excellent communication, inter-personal and presentation skills.
• Documents (Word processing, Power Points), Spreadsheet, email.
• Frequent Domestic and International Travel.
• Regular travel to Korea.
• Partner and Customer visits.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• BS or BE minimum, MS/MBA/PhD highly preferred.
• Functional Safety (FuSa) Certificates or Licenses preferred
