Wireless/Location Systems Engineer Intern

Summer 2021 internship applications are open September 2020.  Samsung Semiconductor summer internships start in May/June 2021.

Join us for a unique 12-14 week paid internship that offers personal and professional development. You’ll work with the teams that create new computing system architectures needed to support emerging machine learning applications, internet of things (IoT) and edge computing that benefit millions of users.  This program will give you the opportunity work on complex solutions to that address some of the world’s most complex technological challenges.


Based in San Jose, California, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. (SSI) is a multi-billion dollar subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, Ltd. and a world leader in Memory, System LSI and LCD technologies.  We provide the widest range of memory, logic, storage devices, LED components and LCD/OLED panels to enhance the user experience in home entertainment, mobile devices, lighting and computing. SSI has advanced R&D labs focused on product design and research in memory, displays, logic, image sensors, and mobile technologies. 

Samsung’s San Jose Location Group was established in October 2012 to develop market-leading location technology for mobile applications.  We have a team of about 70 people in the US driving our technology forward for future generation products.  Our main activities include architecture definition, silicon design, software development, and platform integration.  The Location Group is now part of Samsung’s Application Processor and Modem Group.  We work closely together to develop highly integrated products, and to find opportunities to optimize our products for market success.  The group is looking for a Location / Wireless Systems Engineer.


*One or more of the following:

  • Put together or enhance a GNSS SDR platform or simulation model
  • Characterize and improve performance of GNSS product features using analysis and development of advanced algorithms
  • Research on acquisition and tracking of GNSS signals (legacy and modern)
  • Evaluate algorithms and compare performance of various acquisition and tracking strategies.
  • Develop metrics and associated tools to help in identifying performance limitations/bottlenecks (HW/SW, Interference or Environment related such as Multipath limitations).
  • Work with embedded SW engineers to understand SW implementation and develop code as necessary for above tasks.


  • Strong GNSS signal processing and navigation background. Good understanding of acquisition, tracking and navigation concepts.
  • Good understanding of estimation theory, probability & random processes.
  • Hands on experience with one or more of the following: Developed detailed simulation models for High Sensitive GNSS Acquisition, Tracking and Navigation. Analyzed high sensitive receiver performance in dense urban canyons and multipath environments.
  • Excellent Matlab and C programming skills, and experience with Python.
  • Strong signal processing, mathematical and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player
  • A self-motivated engineer with good task execution skills to deliver high quality output in timely manner
  • Solid communication and documentation skills
