With 80% of human information processing delivered visually, displays are increasingly called upon to be a centerpiece of today’s computing transformation. This requires the implementation of sophisticated image enhancement and compression algorithms to reduce the massive amount of data to be transferred and stored. Samsung Display is seeking experienced engineers to work on data and image compression techniques for display applications.

We are currently looking for a compression algorithm Intern to join our team of Engineers in San Jose, CA. The Candidate will be part of the System Architecture Group @ Display Lab, which is responsible for driving system architecture for display application.



  • Work with team members to contribute towards designing efficient and cost-effective compression algorithms as related to display industry.
  • Create new and useful IP, publish papers, and generate technical whitepapers.
  • Interns are encouraged and empowered to drive their own development projects—ask questions, design solutions, and own the results.



  • PhD candidacy in Electrical engineering with emphasis on image and data compression
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Familiarity with compression standards (DSC, VDC-M, JPWG, etc.) is a plus
  • Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning is a plus
  • Strong foundation in Mathematics, Data Compression & Signal processing
  • Coursework in compression
  • Programming experience in Matlab or C/C++, with algorithm design skills
