[POSITION] OVERVIEW & IMPACT

We are seeking a Software Engineer to support our Analytics Team. This person will be in charge of developing and maintaining web interfaces for our analytics systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

 

You will work with a small, growing team consisting of machine learning researchers and developers. You will develop and architect the platform to host web tools for a variety of analytics tasks on AWS. You will work closely with researchers to integrate various machine learning algorithms into the web tools and interfaces, and assist in the ongoing research. This flexible, open-ended program can evolve based on user needs and research findings. Your ideas and solutions can have a huge impact, and hence experimentation is encouraged. Your customers will include managers that will use the system for generating high-quality data-driven reports. You will help automate and simplify their processes.

 

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

·         Develop websites and interfaces and deploy the system on AWS

·         Imagine user-friendly solutions to tedious problems

  • Work closely with machine learning researchers to integrate various algorithms into web tools
  • Assist in the ongoing research and development
  • Optimize the run-time performance of machine learning algorithms, e.g. by using multithreading and multiprocessing programming techniques
  • Follow established coding standards and development process
  • Maintain existing code and debug when necessary
  • Able to do responsive design and development
  • Able to provide regular status updates for ongoing projects
  • Able to troubleshoot when problems arise
  • Stay current on all programming-related technology and innovations
  • Collaborate with team members
  • Ability to critically think and understand projects from business, customer, and technical perspectives

Complete other duties, tasks, and activities as they arise

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must have strong programming and coding skills, and have experience in developing high-performance websites.

  • Working knowledge of APIs, JSON, JavaScript, and web services experience
  • Working knowledge of Git for version control
  • Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and S3 storage
  • Ability to build solutions that can scale and perform
  • Proficiency in Python programming language

·         Proficiency in PHP, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, and Node.js

  • Front-end development experience is required with extensive UI knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of algorithms

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software, or other programming focused discipline

·         Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design and data structures

·         Computer Science fundamentals in problem solving and complexity analysis

·         Proficiency in a general purpose, modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript, and Python

 

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in computer science, software, or other programming focused discipline

·         3+ years professional experience in software development

·         Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

·         Knowledge of web frameworks for Python, such as Django and Flask

·         Knowledge of Google Charts or D3.js

·         Some experience with machine learning algorithms, e.g., by taking machine learning or data mining courses at a university

·         Knowledge of algorithms

·         Experience in system architecture and web application design
