The vision of SAL is to be the engine of technology inspiration and renovation for Samsung semiconductor. Especially, SAL is tackling a variety of challenging issues in data center, server, and software infrastructure. SAL is operated like a start-up under Samsung umbrella. We are looking for most passionate and talented engineers who can share our visions and have a journey together.

Specifically, we have multiple openings for Storage S/W research engineer who has expertise in SSD, file system, storage management, and storage performance. He or she will join a team of experts in researching and developing innovative solutions that utilize existing and emerging technologies to add substantial value to Samsung.

The team covers a broad spectrum of topics and is building an ecosystem surrounding SSD and NVRAM. You will be working with the-state-of-art technologies in the context of vertical integration and optimization across H/W and S/W. Your initial tasks will participate in a project for new class of storage device where you will have chance to understand what are the critical problems of leverage state-of-art storage technology in datacenter software infrastructure. Our performance research will enable you to develop broad and cutting-edge expertise in system software.

Responsibilities

  • The major role of this position is to conduct key research and development activities for new SSD technologies
  • The engineer is required to analyze the capabilities and performance of SSD and storage system in such context, identify issues, and propose and prototype new solutions across hardware and software
  • Create key IPs, implement prototypes, write or publish papers, and do standardization.
  • Collaborate with universities and international teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and hands-on skills of one of the following area
  • SSD internals
  • Data storage systems such as SSD, SSA, SAN, NAS, DAS technologies
  • Data center storage performance characteristics
  • OS File system (ext3/4, XFS, BtrFS, ZFS)
  • Google-like distributed storage (GFS), and Ceph
  • Relational database (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server),  
  • No-SQL database (e.g., HBase, CouchDB, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB, etc), mecached are plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS with 3+ years experience or PhD fresh grad in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering. Focus or experience of industry quality SSD and storage systems.
  • Knowledge of computer architecture
