The team innovates, solves key technical problems in areas and products related to Samsung’s NAND flash, DRAM and other memory technologies, and tackles a variety of challenging issues in data center, server, and software infrastructure.

The Sr. Data Research - Algorithms engineer will be responsible for the design, development and evaluation of transformative data algorithms for storage systems, to support efficient storage, retrieval and movement of data. He or she will join a team of experts in researching and developing innovative solutions that utilize existing and emerging technologies to add substantial value to Samsung. The team covers a broad spectrum of topics and is building an ecosystem surrounding SSD and NVRAM. You will be working with the-state-of-art technologies in the context of vertical integration and optimization across H/W and S/W.


  • Conduct key research and development activities to design, develop and evaluate large scale data-centric algorithms.
  • The engineer is required to analyze the capabilities and performance of algorithms in such context, identify issues, and propose and prototype new solutions across hardware and software.
  • Create key IPs, implement prototypes, write or publish papers, and do standardization.
  • Work with other hardware/software architects to invent new and refine existing algorithms for future products, and contribute to feasibility studies.
  • Collaborate with universities and international teams.


  • PhD or MS in Computer Science within a discipline related to data processing and transformation and 5+ years of relevant industry experience.  (More experienced candidates will also be considered at relevant levels.)   
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in information theory concepts and experience in applied information theory.
  • Hands-on experience and skill in the practical implementation and evaluation of information theoretically sound algorithms in large-scale, preferably open-source system.
  • Strong understanding of algorithmic analysis and development to solve complex problems.
  • Excellent programming, problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Must be highly motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Knowledge of computer architecture.
  • Good understanding of operating systems and/or storage systems and/or distributed system fundamentals.
  • Good analytical abilities and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and development experience in algorithms related to erasure coding, compression, encryption, network coding, etc.,.
  • Proficiency in state-of-the-art distributed algorithms (eg., consensus/Paxos, reliability, transaction, consistency, etc.,).
  • Good knowledge of NAND flash and NVRAM technologies and/or persistent memory technologies.
  • Prior experience in profiling and bottleneck analysis of algorithms.
