This position seeks an expert in color science who will develop and optimize color algorithms for AMOLED displays, develop new metrology and promote your work through industry outlets through publications and standards organizations in order to push the envelope of high dynamic range panels. You will promote AMOLED-friendly mobile ecosystem with picture perfect resolution essential to our daily lives. These displays contain millions of active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) pixels processed with special manufacturing technologies that feature outstanding colors, fast refresh and low power. The color scientist will ensure panel color technologies provides stunning visual quality and work seamlessly with host processing either in the set or in remote equipment, such as personal computers. The Color Scientist will develop means by which displays truly shine in terms of display measurement performance and adaptation to the human vision system. The work scope is broad by offering a unique combination of challenges to: learn new technology skills quickly, listen effectively, present company positions effortlessly, and synthesize technical details into a story relating to the bigger picture where Samsung Display can apply its wide range of diverse technologies to build upon strong display products.



  • Color and display science: Develop and deploy algorithms and inventions to map video and imagery into display systems. Work closely with the local R&D team to develop prototype hardware, software and firmware designs.
  • Display metrology: Apply your research to current and new method for display characterization.
  • Visual quality: Design and analyze modeling of visual quality in image and video systems for 2D, 3D and light field displays.
  • Standardization: Represent Samsung Display at specific IEC, CIE, ISO and related trade organizations who specify color usage within displays and consumer applications to promote and deploy new methods. Lead strategic initiatives to align industry with Samsung Display and inform broad technical audiences of color science initiatives within the company and through external publications.
  • Collaborate with other Samsung teams on joint research initiatives, projects, and prototypes.



  • Deep knowledge of color science, color spaces and transform algorithms
  • Deep knowledge of visual science and the human vision systems perception of colors and luminance levels
  • Experience in international standardization at IEC, ISO, SMPTE or other international organizations
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, C/C++, Python and scripting languages
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A “can-do” attitude and ability to work in a cross-functional team
  • Masters or Ph.D. in a related field: physics, electrical engineering, computer science, color science or vision science
  • 8+ years working in industry or academic environments in the color and vision field



  • Experienced in display technology
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally
  • Desire to publish
